Frequently Asked Questions - Email Setting

01. E-mail client settings (POP, IMAP, and SMTP)?

Shinjiru supports two different mail server types : LINUX and Windows. Each of these mail server types have settings that are unique to that particular type. In addition, some settings may be different from mail client to mail client. What follows are the most common settings. Server settings for IMAP & POP should be almost identical (although options will differ, the connectivity information listed below should be the same).

If you have trouble with a specific mail client, we have listed the settings for some of the most popular mail clients at the end of this article.

OPTION ONE : LINUX SERVER
POP/IMAP & SMTP server: mail.domain.name

OPTION TWO : WINDOWS SERVER
POP/IMAP & SMTP server: mail.domain.name

03. When I try to send mail, I get an error that the system is not configured to relay mail, or that the domain isn't in the list of allowed rcpthosts. Why?
When trying to send mail, you may get one of the following errors:
  • 501: This system is not configured to relay mail from mailbox@onedomain.name to mailbox@anotherdomain.name
  • 553: Sorry, that domain isn't in my list of allowed rcpthosts; 5.7.1
This means that you have not enabled authenticated SMTP on a server that requires it. To fix the problem, please enable authenticated SMTP.
04. What is autoresponders/autoreplies?

"I am away most of the time or very busy. Still, I would like to show that my company is very prompt in replying e-mail? How can i achieve this?"

You can still use autoreply. Autoreply is a email function which helps you to have a pregenerated email reply form which will automatically reply to any emails received.

"I realized that a lot of email sent to me asking the similar questions. It is really time consuming to reply with the same answer each time? What should I do?"

You can generate an autoresponder which have all the details of answers to common questions or direct them to the relevant sites. Ask them to email you again, to a different email address if they still have any enquiries. By this way, you can filter the emails.
05. What is email forwarding?

EMail aliasing is linking your e-mail addresses to your own domain. Your extension might be "support@yourcompany.com" and not an extension of your local access providers name such as abc@tm.net.my.

Doesn't this definitely sounds nicer? Not only that, you can have various e-mail to your liking without any limitations plus easy to remember, your customer will know exactly which company you are from by just looking at your email address. Example: sales@yourcompany.com
support@yourcompany.com
adeline@yourcompany.com
razak@yourcompany.com

All the above would have been taken by other users if the extensions are of your local providers since they are very common.
06. Are there limits to the number of people that can be setup with POP mail accounts on my server? Are there limits to the number of aliases I can create for email accounts?
There are no limits for the number of POP mailboxes or email aliases you setup on your Virtual Server.
