Now, you’re ready to start receiving payments.  Here’s how it works when a buyer makes a purchase:

  • Customers shop on your website and click the PayPal payment button to make a purchase.
  • They log in to PayPal - they can choose to pay using their credit cards, bank account.
  • With PayPal, they can pay using their credit cards, bank account7 or PayPal balance.
  • You get paid instantly in your PayPal account and can choose to withdraw the funds to your bank account or keep the funds as PayPal balance for your future online purchases.

Fees

PayPal has no set-up or monthly fees.  Pay only a nominal transaction fee with PayPal when you receive a payment8.

The standard rate for receiving payments for goods and services is 3.4% + RM2.00 MYR.

If you receive more than RM12,000.00 MYR per month, you're eligible to apply for PayPal's Merchant Rate - which lowers your fees as your sales volume increases. Your fees can be as low as 2.4% + RM2.00 MYR, based on your previous month's sales volume.

8 Your transaction will be completed at a retail foreign exchange rate determined by PayPal, which are adjusted regularly based on market conditions. This exchange rate includes a 2.5% spread above the wholesale exchange rate at which PayPal obtains foreign currency, and the spread is retained by PayPal. The specific exchange rate that applies to your multiple currency transaction will be displayed at the time of the transaction.

04. Are there any requirements that I must fulfill before I can transfer my funds?
You will need to add a bank account. Also, we recommend that you become a verified PayPal member to increase the pre-set withdraw limits on your account.
05. Can I still transfer funds to a US bank account??

Yes, the functionality to withdraw your PayPal balance to a US bank account is still available.

Note: For transactions involving currency conversion PayPal adds 2.5% to our wholesale exchange rates for foreign currency. This charge serves as a protection against the volatility and risk associated with FX markets. The PayPal exchange rates are updated on a regular basis throughout the day.

06. What currency will be transferred from my PayPal account to my local bank account?
Regardless of the foreign currency (USD, EUR, AUD, etc.) you are transferring from your PayPal account, the funds will be converted to your local currency (Malaysian Ringgit).
07. Can I transfer US Dollars to my Malaysian Ringgit (denominated) bank account?
No. This feature is currently not available.
08. Can I transfer US Dollars to my US Dollar denominated Malaysian bank account?
No. This feature is currently not available.
09. Why was my request to transfer money from my PayPal account to my bank account reversed or returned??
Your transfer request may have been returned due to a couple of reasons:
  1. Your name and/or bank information on your PayPal account did not match that of the information on your bank account. In this case your bank may reject/return the funds to PayPal. Please update your information in your PayPal account. If you need help, please contact our customer support team via email or phone +65 6510 4584 or +65 6823 2061.
  2. If you don't have a balance in your PayPal account and you receive a buyer dispute, claim or chargeback, we may need to reverse your transfer so that the balance in your PayPal account does not become negative. (Funds in dispute are always held in the seller's account until a decision is made. If there are not funds in your PayPal account your balance will become negative and your account will fall out of good standing and may be limited.)

FAQs on transferring money to your Visa® credit/debit card

01. Can I still transfer funds to a Visa debit, credit, or prepaid card?

Yes, you can still transfer the balance in your PayPal account to your Visa® credit/debit card. Here's how:

  1. Log in to your PayPal account and click on the "Withdraw" tab
  2. Click "Transfer funds to your card"
  3. Fill in the necessary information and click "Continue"
        
02. Is there a fee for funds transferred from my PayPal account to my Visa debit, credit or prepaid card?

There will be a flat fee of RM20 - regardless of the transferred amount.

03. How long does it take for funds to reach my card?

It will take between 5 to 7 business days for the funds to reach your card account.

FAQs on Malaysian Ringgit and currency conversions

01. Can I receive payments in Ringgit from anyone with a PayPal account??

Due to the current Malaysian laws and regulations, there are some limitations on receiving money using MYR within the PayPal system. There may be cases which are not listed but require us to comply with the law. This means that we may not always be able to exchange your money or use your desired payment method (balance, credit card, etc).

  • Can only be used for transactions within Malaysia by PayPal Malaysia account holders.
  • Cannot be used for payments to non-Malaysia PayPal account holders residing outside of Malaysia.
  • Cannot be converted or exchanged to or from other currencies.

e.g. if you hold a balance in MYR in your PayPal account, you will not be able to exchange it to US Dollars (or other currencies). You'll only be able to use your balance for transactions in MYR within Malaysia. Additionally, you can withdraw or transfer MYR from your PayPal balance to your bank account or Visa® credit/debit card.

02. Can I transfer funds between balances in my PayPal account - such as MYR to USD, etc?

No. At this time due to the current Malaysian laws and regulations, we cannot transfer money within your PayPal account between Ringgit and other currencies.

03. Can I request payments in Malaysian Ringgit from someone overseas?

No. Due to current Malaysian laws, PayPal account holders outside of Malaysia will only be able to send payments to you in one of 22 currencies - excluding Ringgit. To see the full list of available currencies, click here.

04. What is the cost for converting currencies?

For transactions involving currency conversion, a processing fee of 2.5% above the exchange rate will apply. This processing fee is retained by PayPal. This fee serves as protection against the volatility and risk associated with FX markets.
