1. What is Sharepoint?

SharePoint is a server program that allows groups to set up a centralized, password protected space for document sharing. Documents can be stored, downloaded and edited, then uploaded for continued sharing. It is used to facilitate collaboration, provide content management features, implement business processes, and provide access to essential information.

2. How do i get a Sharepoint site?

SharePoint sites are managed by SharePoint administrators who may or may not be part of the department’s IT group. SharePoint sites are always created upon a formal request to the IT group. After the site has been setup and appropriate permissions assigned, the site is then managed by the primary point of contact for the site otherwise known as SharePoint site administrator.

3. What internet browsers are supported?

SharePoint Server 2010 supports several Web browsers that are commonly used (Internet Explorer, Mozilla Firefox, Safari). However, certain browsers might cause some SharePoint Server 2010 functionality to be downgraded, limited, or available only through alternative steps. In some cases, functionality might be unavailable for noncritical administrative tasks.

4. How would you use this (announcements)? Would it be easy to send an email?

Announcements in SharePoint are useful when working on documents with others in your group. You could send out an announcement when documents have been uploaded or changed, for example if you are working on a grant you could announce that the first draft is available for others to review. Announcements could also be used to announce meetings as well.

5. If an item is “checked out” can someone else edit this document?

No, they cannot edit the document while someone else has it checked out. They can, however, check the item out and view it, but they cannot put the item back (or “check in” the document). Only until the original “checked out” item is put back onto SharePoint can others check it out to edit the item.

6. Can we share “events” (calendar items) with our Outlook calendar?

Yes you can. There is an option in SharePoint to “Connect to Outlook” for calendar events. To “connect” a calendar item, simply click on the “Calendar” web part name and then click on the “Calendar” tab at the top of the page. The “Ribbon” will open and you will see a “Connect to Outlook” icon, click on that icon to connect the calendar to your Outlook calendar.

7. How do i check a document in after i have checked it out?

Hover over the document, click the down arrow to the right of the document name and click Check In.

1. Why did you change the name of Lync to Skype for business?

Skype for Business will include other new features such as:

  • Familiar Skype icons for audio and video calling

4. Will lync users lose any features when the product becomes Skype?

No. Skype for Business will deliver the same features and functionality as well as the control, security, and reliability that enterprise customers expect. For instance Skype for Business admins can decide how and when the user interface is displayed. This additional control means they can deliver Skype for Business on their terms.

5. Will Skype for business continue to be part of Office 365?

Office 365 FAQ

1. What is office 365? how is it different from Microsoft Office?

Microsoft office 365 is a web-based version of microsoft's office suite of enterprise-grade productivity applications. office 365 is delivered to users through the cloud and includes exchange online for email, sharepoint online for collaboration, skype for business for unified communications and a suite of office web apps (web-based versions of the traditional microsoft office suite of applications).

With our premium office365 package, enjoy a fully installed office experience across pcs, macs, windows tables ipad and android tablets, and most devices. Each user can install office on up to 5 pcs or macs, 5 tablets (windows, ipad, android), and 5 phones. These applications include: Word, Excel, Powerpoint, Onenote, Outlook, Publisher and access (publisher and access available for pc only).

For some users, the web based applications is satisfactory and therefore the office365 essentials package is suitable.

All office 365 plans are paid for on a subscription basis, monthly or annually. however, we are able to offer the microsoft office suite as a one-time purchase which can only be installed on one pc or mac. the downside of this is that these applications are not automatically updated and therefore to keep up-to-date with the suite requires purchasing of the product again. furthermore, these suites do not come with the cloud based services included in office 365.

2. Will office 365 work with my copy of office?

Office 365 works best with the latest version of office, office 2013, office 2010, office 2016 for mac, and office 2011 for mac. office 365 works with slightly limited functionality with office 2007. if you have an earlier edition of office, you will need to update to a newer version of office in order to use office 365; or you can subscribe to one of the many office 365 plans that include the latest version of office. in addition to getting the latest version of office as part of your subscription, you will also get automatic updates, so your office will always be up to date.

3. Is internet access required for office 365?

Internet access is required to install, activate and manage your office 365 plan. internet access is also required to access office 365 cloud productivity services including email, conferencing, it management and other services.

6. What do i need to install when i sign up for office 365?

You don't need to install anything in order to use Office 365.

Office Desktop Setup Tool provides many benefits, including:

5. What is raid?

Redundant array of independent disks (raid) is a means of storing data on multiple hard disks. it links the disks in such a way that the operating system on your server views them as a single entity. we offer raid-1 with all of our dedicated server hosting packages.

Raid method of data storage is also known as mirroring. data is kept on at least two disks. this ensures the highest degree of data security, but due to data capturing on two disks, a slight performance decrease might occur.

SSD Virtual Private Server FAQ

1. What does hyper-v powered vps mean?

Some windows vps providers do not use true hardware virtualization, but instead use a software layer with which the guest machines must communicate. this software layer must then relay the commands to the operating system. this approach causes a reduction in performance as the software layer is shared among all of the guests on the host machine. with hyper-v powered vps, you will no longer face this problem.

2. Processing power

Our host machines have more than one multiple core processors so that each vps can have access to two or more processor cores, so that each vps has plenty of processing power available when they need it.

3. Dedicated ram

The most important factor in the smooth operation of any vps is the amount of memory (ram) available to it, the swap (virtual ram) it has available should only be used in exceptional circumstances, as in the event of unexpectedly high traffic.

Some windows vps providers may offer a comparatively large quantity of memory, but this may be because the memory is being shared with every other windows vps on the host machine, which means the vps will not perform in the same way as with dedicated ram. in hyper-v, you will be getting dedicated ram allocation instead of shared.
