Shinjiru at Seni Mekar: A Celebration of Expression Through Art
A vibrant collection of artworks now brightens the office space, transforming the environment into a mini gallery of creativity. Each piece showcases unique perspectives from bold abstract expressions to playful illustrations—bringing colour, energy, and inspiration into the Shinjiru workplace. Together, the display reflects the spirit of Seni Mekar, where creativity continues to bloom beyond the exhibition.
Shinjiru recently had the privilege of attending Seni Mekar: Art in Bloom, an art exhibition that brought together a remarkable group of young artists with diverse abilities and backgrounds.
The exhibition featured children and youth living with conditions such as autism, down syndrome and other unique blessings that shape who they are. While many of them may experience difficulty expressing themselves through words, their artworks spoke clearly — offering a glimpse into their inner worlds, emotions, and imagination.
What made the experience especially meaningful was the authenticity present in every piece. Each artwork carried its own personality, shaped not by rigid techniques but by instinct, exploration, and individuality. Some artists worked beyond conventional methods, using their hands or simple tools to bring their ideas to life. The result is art that feels deeply personal, unfiltered, and honest.
Walking through the exhibition felt like stepping into a vibrant “garden” of stories — each canvas representing a journey of growth, resilience, and self-expression. It was a powerful reminder that creativity exists in many forms, and that every individual deserves the opportunity to be seen and heard in their own way.
Shinjiru is honoured to have supported this initiative by acquiring eight paintings from the exhibition. These pieces now serve as daily reminders of the importance of inclusion, empathy, and celebrating differences. More than just artworks, they represent courage, individuality, and the beauty of expression beyond words.

As part of our support for this meaningful initiative, we are proud to have acquired eight artworks from the exhibition. Each piece reflects a unique story, perspective, and creative journey:
1. Do What You Like
Artist: Aqeela Isa Ismail, 10 years old
An emerging artist with Down syndrome, Aqeela’s work is inspired by her fascination with seasons and her natural artistic instinct. Given the freedom to explore her own path, she blossomed — experimenting with layering paints and creating distinctive marks. Her work captures the joy of discovery and invites viewers to look deeper into her imagination.
2. Calm And Freedom
Artist: Branden, 16 years old
Branden is an emerging artist living with Spinal Muscular Atrophy (Type 1), Dyslexia, and Dyscalculia. This series, created in 2024, reflects his exploration of colours and his enjoyment of the artistic process — expressing a quiet sense of calm and freedom through simplicity.
3. I Did Spiral For The First Time
Artist: Cory, 14 years old
An emerging artist with Congenital Rubella Syndrome, Cory’s artistic journey has evolved from structured, diagonal lines into more fluid expressions. This piece marks his exploration of curves, symbolising growth, confidence, and a new sense of creative openness.
4. My Rainbow Dots
Artist: Ellie, 9 years old
Ellie, an emerging artist with Down syndrome, brings vibrant joy to her work. Inspired by her friend Aqeela, she created her own colourful interpretation of a rainbow — filled with energy, positivity, and a sense of wonder that reflects her bright personality.
5. Cheshire Cat (Alice in Wonderland)
Artist: Kaye-Leigh, 16 years old
An emerging artist with Prader-Willi Syndrome, Kaye-Leigh has been part of FriendenArt since its early days. Her works have been widely showcased through exhibitions and collaborations, reflecting both her artistic growth and consistency.
6. I Like Magic Art 3
Artist: Marilyn, 6 years old
Marilyn, an emerging artist with Global Developmental Delay and ADHD, approaches art with pure joy and curiosity. This piece continues her exploration of a “magic” style, building on her early experiences and creative instincts.
7. The Sunset With My Family
Artist: Sabrina, 18 years old
Sabrina is a vibrant and expressive artist with Down syndrome. Passionate about art, music, and movement, she channels her energetic personality into her work. This piece reflects both her love for family and her journey of self-expression.
8. I Am Learning New Words
Artist: Zidane, 9 years old
An emerging artist with autism, Zidane enjoys expressing himself through art inspired by the things he loves — from cartoons to sea creatures and alphabets. His work reflects curiosity, joy, and a world built around his unique interests.
